How to Complete Your Electronic Signature in PECOS

Modified on Tue, 6 May at 12:53 PM

Summary

This guide explains how providers can complete their Medicare enrollment electronic signature in PECOS, along with troubleshooting login issues.

Important Note:

Every provider who has an NPI (National Provider Identifier) has a PECOS account.

You may encounter providers who believe they do not have PECOS access. In most cases, they do, they simply may not have used it yet or someone else (such as an office staff member) has been managing their account without full CMS access rights.

Providers must be the primary account holders for their CMS Identity and Access Management (IAM) profile.

They can add surrogate users to assist, but providers must personally control their own login credentials to comply with CMS policy.

The following three CMS systems are linked together:

  • CMS Identity and Access Management (IAM): Primary login system

  • NPPES: Manages the provider’s NPI profile

  • PECOS: Manages Medicare enrollments

If a provider is unsure of their login information, or if another party controls their account, they must contact CMS directly at 1-866-484-8049 to regain access.

Steps to Complete Your Signature:

  1. Go to the PECOS enrollment portal: https://pecos.cms.hhs.gov/pecos/login.do

  2. Log in using your CMS Identity and Access Management (IAM) credentials.

  3. Complete the multi-factor authentication.

  4. On the homepage, scroll down to the Manage Signatures section.

  5. Click View Signature.

  6. Review the two Terms and Conditions sections.

  7. Check both boxes and submit your electronic signature.

What Happens Next:

After submitting your electronic signature:

  • Please email the Zaya Credentialing Team at credentialing@zayacare.com to confirm completion.

  • We will verify that your enrollment has been successfully submitted.

Troubleshooting Login Issues:

If you forgot your password:

    1.    Visit the CMS Identity and Access Management portal: https://nppes.cms.hhs.gov/IAWeb/login.do

    2.    Click Forgot Password.

    3.    Enter your User ID and follow the reset instructions.

If you forgot your User ID:

  • Use the Forgotten User ID link on the CMS login page.

Important:

  • If you enter incorrect information three times, your account will be locked.

  • If your account is locked, or you continue to experience login issues, please call CMS Support at 1-866-484-8049 for assistance.
