Overview
This article explains how referrals are handled when billing with Zaya Care. If you’re a provider (e.g., Physical Therapist or Registered Dietitian) receiving referrals, or working with referring providers (e.g., PCPs), this guide will help ensure everything is submitted correctly and aligned with payer expectations.
Key Point
The only change in billing with Zaya is that billing provider is submitted under Zaya’s Tax ID, NPI and billing address. Everything else remains the same. You do not have to do anything different, Zaya will make this change after you submit your claims through the Zaya Portal.
What Referring Providers Should Do
Referring providers (e.g., PCPs, specialists) should continue to:
Address referrals to the individual rendering provider, not Zaya
Include the rendering provider’s full name and NPI
Use the usual service location or practice name, if required by the payer
Do not list Zaya as the referring or rendering provider. Zaya functions as the billing group only and we make this change on our end after your submit claims to Zaya through the Zaya portal.
Why This Matters
Payers usually validate referrals against the rendering provider NPI, the clinician who delivers care, not the billing group. Keeping referrals directed to the individual provider ensures proper claim processing and minimizes the risk of denials or patient cost-sharing errors.
